I removed the previous comment from this talk page because the content has been moved to the article, making its presence here moot. Author, please don't be offended.

I'd like to remind folks that it's helpful and polite to sign your comments on this page. To sign your comments, use 4 tildes ( aka "~" ) in a row.

I am positively thrilled at the thorough romping that's happening on this page. I hadn't dare hope that people would take it seriously...and now that they seemingly have, I'm tempted to believe that we'll be able to help newbies get educated, rather than help set them up as target practice.

Finally, a reluctant criticism. I am very uncomfortable with the characterization of "license violation" as stealing. I understand what is meant, and I basically agree. But I think that this terminology separates the reader from what we are trying to say.

Noobs don't naturally associate IP violation with theft. That's what we're trying to address by educating them. By begging the question and using the term they probably don't accept in the first place (else they'd not have been directed here) it sets up an adversarial relationship between the noob and the text that I don't think is necessary.

Since my unilateral removal of the terms would probably get reverted if I didn't explain my motives first, I wanted to get people's thoughts on that.

To clarify, I think it *is* theft. But I think it is counterproductive to use that terminology in what is meant as an introductory, non-confrontational article for noob orientation.
